A Dark In The Light promo shots

I have been going through some older work and found some things I never posted anywhere.  These are from a promo shoot I did last May for A Dark In The Light.  Interesting to look back at the digital files and see how much I have changed in the way I process images; I don’t think I used noise-reduction software on any of these and at least one of them could have stood a little NR.  These are actually slightly tweaked from the package I originally finished; I upped the contrast a little, adjusted the curves, and used unsharp mask on them.  I also noticed that I used to frequently crop in unstandard ratios.  I don’t mean like using non-print-standard vs. Fibonacci numbers (the “golden ratio,” which I’ve been doing a lot lately) but cropping in completely unstandard, by any standards, sizes.  I try not to do that much anymore because it takes more work to turn them into printable sizes.

They were also all taken with the kit lenses that come with a Nikon D40, which was the camera I was mainly using at the time.  Not bad lenses but they have been relegated to the shelf now that I have some really good ones. Also all were taken with no lighting and no reflectors, which makes me cringe a bit now. I don’t think I’d even consider doing a shoot that way again. I do remember that I brought a ladder though, so I could get way up above them and shoot downward. That was the extent of my artistic manipulation of the scene. I’d sure do it differently now!
